New Trier Hockey Club

2017-18 Season Registration

Welcome

Welcome to the 2017-2018 New Trier Hockey Club (NTHC).  Once again, the new season promises to provide our student-athletes with outstanding opportunities to compete in high school hockey.  As the largest high school hockey program in Illinois, we are proud to field multiple teams, ensuring roster spots for as many players as possible.

This year our NTHC teams will include five teams: four Varsity and one Junior Varsity.  Varsity Green, Varsity Blue and Junior Varsity will play in the Scholastic Hockey League (SHL), and Varsity White (U16) and Varsity Gray will play in the Illinois High School Hockey League (IHSHL) North Central Division. In our first annual meeting, we will provide you information outlining the details of tryouts and the full season.

The decision to try out for a NTHC team is something that should be taken very seriously.  Hockey is a team sport that requires a significant financial and time commitment on the part of both the player and his family. NTHC players are not permitted to be double-rostered on any other team. Due to the popularity and continued growth of hockey in the area, we expect a situation where not all players who tryout will be placed on a NTHC team.

Please note our safety policy regarding baseline concussion testing. ALL Freshman, Juniors, and all players new to NTHC (regardless of academic year) are required to provide evidence of a new baseline concussion test (IMPACT Test). Baseline tests can be done at Athletico (which has several nearby locations) or at Illinois Bone & Joint's Glenview location. Please refer to the Baseline Concussion Test flier for more details.

All players, new and those rostered on a 2016-2017 NTHC team, must complete and submit all required forms in order to participate in the tryout process. We recommend that you carefully read all of the enclosed materials before committing to the tryout process.

REGISTRATION PROCESS AND TRYOUT SCHEDULE

Interested participants must complete and submit required registration materials (some online, a few by mail), including payment of the tryout fee and first installment (or payment in full) by Saturday, August 12, 2017.  Registration will be completed through an online process with participation forms available via this website.

Escalating late fees will be applied as follows:

-          As of Sunday, August 13, 2017, any participants who fail to complete and submit all required forms and payments will be assessed a $100 non-refundable late registration fee.

-          As of Sunday, August 20, 2017, any participants who fail to complete and submit all required forms and payments will be assessed a $250 non-refundable late registration fee.

Under no circumstances will a player be allowed to participate in the tryouts until all completed forms and payments have been received.

There will be a MANDATORY MEETING for all players and their parents on Saturday, August 26, 2017 beginning promptly at 10:00 am. The meeting will be in the  auditorium at the Wilmette Park District Community Recreation Center, 3000 Glenview Rd., Wilmette. Please note that tryouts begin that same day (8/26/17). It is critical that all forms be submitted by the August 12th deadline

Please note the tryouts will follow essentially the same process as past years. TEAM SELECTIONS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE FRONT OF THE NTHC WEB PAGE ON SEPARATE DAYS.   ALSO, THE PERIOD TO DECLINE THE TEAM SELECTION AND THUS AVOID BEING OBLIGATED TO PAY THE ENTIRE YEAR’S PLAYER FEES WILL BE A 24 HOUR PERIOD AFTER SELECTION AND NOTICE TO THE PLAYERS (VIA THE WEBSITE).

The tryouts will be held from Saturday, August 26, 2017 through Wednesday, August 30, 2017.  The Saturday and Sunday sessions will take place in the late afternoon/early evening.  The weekday sessions will take place in the evenings.

Initial group assignments for the tryouts will be posted at the mandatory meeting on August 26th. AFTER EACH TRYOUT SESSION, PARTICIPANTS MUST VISIT THE WEBSITE TO DETERMINE THEIR GROUP ASSIGNMENT AND SCHEDULED TRYOUT SESSION FOR THE FOLLOWING DAY.

FINALIZATION OF ROSTERS AND FINANCIAL COMMITMENT

TWENTY FOUR HOURS (24 HOURS) AFTER A TEAM SELECTION HAS BEEN POSTED, ALL SELECTED PLAYERS FOR THAT TEAM WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PLAYER FEES FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON. PLAYERS WHO ELECT TO NOT ACCEPT THE TEAM SELECTION MUST NOTIFY THE CLUB PRESIDENT AND HEAD COACH VIA EMAIL OF THEIR DECISION TO DECLINE THE INVITATION TO PLAY FOR THAT TEAM WITHIN THE 24 HOUR "COOLING OFF" PERIOD.  FOR EXAMPLE, IF A SELECTED BLUE PLAYER CHOOSES TO DECLINE THE INVITATION TO PLAY FOR THE BLUE TEAM, SUCH DECISION MUST BE E-MAILED TO THE CLUB PRESIDENT AND HEAD COACH WITHIN 24 HOURS OF TEAM SELECTION. IF A PLAYER IS SELECTED TO PLAY ON A TEAM, BUT PROVIDES NOTICE VIA E MAIL TO THE CLUB PRESIDENT AND HEAD COACH WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE NOTICE OF TEAM SELECTION,  FEES PAID (MINUS THE TRYOUT FEE AND A $150 ADMINISTRATION FEE) WILL BE PROMPTLY REFUNDED.

Throughout the entire tryout process, Coaches may elect to conduct individual meetings with players regarding the tryouts and team selections.  Roster spots can become available if a player opts to leave the Club rather than play on the team for which he was selected.

FINANCIAL COMMITMENT
The cost of high school hockey includes: ice time, coaching salaries, referee costs, league fees, tournament entry, transportation & meal fees, team equipment and club administration.  The 2017-2018 player total fees are as follows.

Tryout fees:                                    $ 400 (all participants)

Blue/White/Gray/JV Player Fees   $4,600   +  $400      = $5,000 Total

Green Player Fees                         $4,900   +  $400      = $5,300 Total

In addition to the above fees, players will incur additional expenses including equipment, respective team expenses and tournament hotel expenses. New players to NTHC will be responsible for purchasing home and away game jerseys at a cost of approximately $250.  Full payment for the team jerseys is due September 15, 2017. The Green Team has traditionally incurred higher team costs primarily due to the additional games played, tournaments entered and more out of town travel. The additional fees for the Green Team can run between $750-$1500 per player as described on the Expectations page (which you will see during the registration process).

There is a full payment option available. There will be a $200 savings for all players paid in full by the August 12 deadline. A full payment would be $4,800. Please note: for all players making NT Green who exercise the payment-in-full option, there will be an additional fee of $300 due by September 15, 2017. The additional $300 fee for players making NT Green will be payable online by credit card. Players who make NT Green will receive further information about that additional payment.

If you plan to pay your registration fees in 3 installments, you will pay your tryout fee and 1st installment online at the end of this registration with a credit card. 2nd and 3rd installments will be automatically charged to your credit card on the dates listed below.  In addition to completing this online registration, you must also send the completed AHAI Hockey Participation Form (available to download in the online registration) to:  Tara Kochman, Registrar, 1174 Michigan Avenue, Wilmette, IL 60091.

If you plan to pay your fees in full, you will not pay online. Instead, you must send your check along with the completed AHAI Hockey ParticipationForm to: Tara Kochman, Registrar, 1174 Michigan Avenue, Wilmette, IL 60091.

The NTHC recognizes that playing hockey is expensive.  Please watch for important information at your team meetings early in the season regarding the Program Guide as a way to reduce your hockey fees.

Also, we have the "Goal and Assist" fund. If you are interested in applying for financial assistance, please contact
Mike Brunso, NTHC President, or Tara Kochman, NTHC Registrar.

Program Guide credits will be paid separately.  Please note that NTHC policy requires that payment of the 2nd and 3rd installments must be made by the required due date unless a payment plan has been established. Failure to pay any installment by the designated deadline will result in a player's immediate suspension from team activities until payment is made or a payment plan agreed upon. If there is a need to make payment arrangements, please contact Bob Soudan, Club Treasurer.  Such requests will be maintained in confidence.

ACADEMIC CODE, ATHLETIC CODE AND CODE OF CONDUCT

New Trier High School and the New Trier Hockey Club share the same athletic and academic codes.  A copy of the NTHC Athletic Code is available on this website. As part of registration, each player, along with both of his parents/guardians, will be required to electronically sign an acknowledgement of the Athletic Code Agreement before he can tryout.

The NTHC’s Academic Code is also available on this website.  As part of this registration, each player, along with one of his parents/guardian, must review and acknowledge their understanding of this code.  In addition, a parent/guardian must agree to verify their player's academic eligibility if such verification is requested by the Registrar or a NTHC coach.  PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR PARENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO READ AND UNDERSTAND BOTH THE ATHLETIC & ACADEMIC CODE.

The NTHC’s internal policies for the 2017-2018 season are also available on this web site.  Please take the time to read them carefully as they provide much useful information about how the Club operates.  An understanding of these policies may help avoid a problem during the season.  If you have any questions about Club policies, please contact Mike Brunso, NTHC President.

While the NTHC is attempting to gather forms electronically, the AHAI Hockey Participation form  must be printed and signed by each player, a parent and a physician. You will find this form in the online registration. Be sure to print 2 copies of the AHAI Hockey Participation form, as both copies must be signed and submitted to NTHC physically, not online. It is imperative that the physician sign the AHAI Hockey Participation form; otherwise, the player will not be able to participate in tryouts.  If the physician elects to use a stamp, it must be legible.  Again, please print and sign this form and turn in 2 hard copies along with your initial fee by the August 12 deadline.

If you have any tryout questions or if you know of any player who is interested in playing hockey for the New Trier Hockey Club and they did not receive notice of the tryout processes and procedures, please feel free to refer them to the website.  Alternatively, interested participants can contact me or
Tara Kochman, Club Registrar.

We look forward to another great year of hockey for New Trier!

Sincerely,
Michael Brunso
